The seventh sign
of the Righteous:
And
humbleness in worship.
Humility is the
presence of the heart combined with humbleness, and respect, The people of piety
in their prayers are all concerned with the inner and truth of the prayer.
Humility is accompanied by fear, and it is atrocity against which the heart is
cruel and ineffective.
Humiliation in
the word means fear mixed with bow, and in a sense it is said to be as if
someone had been confronted with a sultan so that all his attention was focused
on him and that he was cut off everywhere. The Prophet of God was asked: What
is humility? And he answered:
Humility in
prayer And that man should pay attention to God with all his heart. "(Bahar al-Anwar,
vol. 81, p. 264)
Humiliation
in the Qur'an and Hadith
Holly Quran
describes a virtue of a true pious person in Humbleness at prayers and says:
Successful
are the believers. Those who are humble in their
prayers.
When the believer is in a state of humiliation, his works appear in his body
and organs and in his whole being immersed in love and righteousness throughout
his existence and his body in harmony with every worship. Holly Quran says:
God has sent down the best
of narrations: A Scripture consistent and paired. The skins of those who
reverence their Lord shiver from it, then their skins and their hearts soften
up to the remembrance of God.
It is
important that the body and the soul must both be humble before God, because
humility of heart also results in humiliation of the organs, as amir al-muminin
said (peace be upon him):
Your heart must be humbled for
God, and the one whose heart is humbled, all of his organs will be humble.
The humiliation without heart
is just a manifestation of humiliation and a form of hypocrisy that the Prophet
(peace be upon him) said should be avoided:
Avoid hypocritical
humiliation, which means that the organs of the body are humble but the heart
is not.
Humbleness of the pious
They have the finest example
of humility in all matters of life, especially during worship. Those great men
are humble before God alone. God sent Moses and Aaron this revelation:
My friends talk to me with
humiliation and fear.
While praying, the Prophet of
God would change his face color from the fear
of God and a burning sound would be heard from him (Falah al-Sa'al, p. 6).
During prayer and worship,
Amir al-Mu'minins body shaked and his
face color changed (Bahar al-Anwar, vol. 1, p. 3).
Imam Sadeq (as) quotes his
father Imam Baqir (as):
Imam
Sajjad (pbuh) was like a tree stump when he prayed, and no part of his body or
clothes would move except the amount of wind that was moving.
Worship
requires humility
Worship
is valuable when it is done with complete care and humility, and otherwise
unselfish worship is only a cessation of duty and indicates that its owner
lacks strong faith and certainty. Imam Sadeq (peace be upon him) says:
Faith
is not valuable except by action, and action is not accepted except by
certainty, and certainty does not exist unless there is humility.
Barriers
to humiliation
The
greatest obstacle to humility in prayer and forgetting God is to depart from
the Qur'an and to commit sins, which the believers must strictly avoid. It
should also refrain from doing things that, while not sinful in appearance, can
produce atrocities in the heart or deter people from paying attention to
worship and humility.
A
man should not play in prayer with his beard and whatever deters him from
paying attention to prayer.
The
Holy Quran warns the believers about the danger that the heart will not be
humbled and says:
Is it not time for those who believe to surrender their hearts to
the remembrance of God, and to the truth that has come down, and not be like
those who were given the Book previously, but time became prolonged for them,
so their hearts hardened, and many of them are sinners?
In the commentary of this verse, Allameh
Tabatabai says: This verse is a tribute to the believers because of the
atrocities which their hearts have and because of that mentioning god will not
be with humbleness... Almighty God has pointed out in this word that the hearts
of Muslims Like the hearts of the former Ummahs, it has suffered atrocities,
and because the heart of the a cruel person is out of reverence for
righteousness, humility, and influence, it does not bother with divine sins and
commits sin and corruption with fearlessness. (Translation of the
Interpretation of Almizan, vol. 19, p. 284)
